Noticed my Google offer letter has an arbitration clause. From reading through it, it seems like it is basically signing away my right to a trial / legal processes vs Google. This made me pretty uncomfortable... is there no way to avoid signing this? This is for NYC office.
Which level? I thought nyc google is freezign hiring now
i thought google ended arbitration clause. Maybe only In California where HQ is
Ends March 21st. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/02/21/technology/google-forced-arbitration.amp.html
Huh. Wonder why they have it in the offer letter if it is gone on March 21st globally, for current and future employees according to that article. That makes me feel a bit better.
Lol. Because today is March 15th and March 15th is before March 21st. Really?
Everywhere had forced arbitration until recently when some companies have had pressure to remove it. It's pretty standard.
You can avoid signing it by not joining. It’s pretty standard to have such contracts.
Only in sexual harrassment and discrimination type cases is it not applicable. They retain it for other cases, but there is a way around it. Instead of a class action, you have each individual complaint sent to arbitration. They have to engage an org to do the arbitration and it bogs them way down. It's what the driver's did to Uber.
What's the offer you received
Pretty much every company has this, unfortunately.
I remembered there is a clause that state/federal law overrules anything - don’t remember exact the words.
