Are GM & Cruise Practically the same company?

Do you receive the same benefits? Similar levels at the two companies? Or do they operate these things separately?

Curious if it's really different working as an engineer at GM vs at Cruise -- and whether one is better (pay/wlb) than the other

Cruise is very hived off from GM, though involvement with the mother ship does vary team to team and function to function.

Unless you get an offer from both it is pretty difficult to compare compensation packages. The buy out stated that Cruise is supposed to be separated as much as possible.

Having said that, the Cruise employees are listed under People Finder (our HR software), but are identified as Cruise.

Never have I ever logged into that.

Also no, comp packages are not comparable. Unless you want to move to detroit

Do you have access to Socrates.gm.com... Thats how you'd access people finder. It automatically picks up your corporate login (if you have one...) so don't really need to explicitly login to anything.

Technically I do, but to reset your password you have to log in from a windows computer. So 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just curious, but does the Cadillac Super Cruise feature come from Cruise, or from GM internally??

There’s a little bit of overlap but they’re mostly separate companies. GMs pay is lower but WLB will be better.

There is overlap, as in, we still have to go to the mothership. But we get to use github and gmail and avoid whatever pain in the ass internal tools you use

I’ve heard there’s Cruise projects within GM teams but they’re super basic projects, none of the cool autonomous stuff. I haven’t seen any of that first hand, though.

Unless it’s hardware (or hardware-adjacent), which I wouldn’t call basic, it probably won’t go very far.
Not going to get into specifics on the public forum, DM me if you want to know
