MSFT PM L61 3.5 YOE 177 TC Seattle 1.5 years ago. Applied to a PM position at G, because I wanted to leave a really toxic environment at MSFT. Went through the first two phone interviews with G and got a rejection call with no feedback. Thought I did well on estimation during the first interview, but the second interview was vague but still did ok. Instead, switched internally to an amazing team. A month ago. A different Google recruiter reached out and said that I did great on the initial interviews and they are ready for me to come on-site. Recruiter chatted with me about a few open positions I might like in Seattle area and I started prepping again. A week later the recruiter informed me that all PM roles are filled and I need to wait a few months. I am confused. Why reach out? Why is the process so lengthy? Is it because I don't want to go to CA?
There are a lot of companies..
True, but for now I am just responding to whoever contacts me on LinkedIn while waiting to get my last stock drop. After that, I am going to switch to a more aggressive tactic.
If less people apply to google, they will start giving more value
What does interview prep for a PM position consist of?
Search online for what suits you best. I read a few prep books, like "Cracking the Pm Interview." Also, did A TON of mock interviews with pretty much anybody who would give me a time of day.
Wait, wut? They invited you to come on site after rejecting you?
They rejected over a year earlier
I mean recruiters arent really the most honest salespeople... Plus they dont have control over anything besides the news they need to relay to you
Sure, but seems like they at least could have tempered my expectations...
LOL. The Big Goo* Up.
you're not the only one who finds the process annoying
Is there any specific logic to it? Perhaps because Seattle is a satellite office it is not as straightforward.
there's no logic. it's really depends on the specific recruiter, etc. many of them are new to the company, don't know all the things, etc. ex: for me, they keep scheduling interviews even though I told them I didn't want to interview any more people.
