How are you people who are getting married in India and getting separated in the US coping with financial issues? Meaning how to take care of finances in the event of a separation. Does taking away half of your assets still apply irrespective of what country you get married in?

If you get divorced in US, you will lose half + spousal support + child support. As you were married in India, it’s a courtesy that American judicial system does to residents from other nations to annual the marriage.
US splits post marital assets. What you earned before marriage, you get to keep. It is pretty clear no? If there was dowry exchange or you spent unfair share of wedding expenses, you can(should) get that money back too.
