Waymo won, the rest is malarkey. "Oh uh ford is a customer oh oh" Cruise automation according to engineers there is just laying ML foundation. They re all clowns just saying shit for PR sake. Elon promised model S to do NY-LA by the end of this year. Waymo been doing this and collecting data since late 2000s and companies think they're just starting now and hold any competitive edge? Lmao cute
Personally I have not been impressed by Argo. They attend major conferences for recruitment but I have not observed any impressive announcements or demos from them. They seem to be going through the motions that everyone else in the field is but I think they will lag for some time. Moreover they don’t seem to be drawing the same top talent that others have been. Now it could be that they are just playing their cards a lot closer to their chest or that my robotics friends just tend to go to other companies.
I think Waymo is ahead but there is still a lot more to go before they can say they "won". And perhaps being second place is fine too. Like Bing still brings in billions of dollars every year.
Voyage was the only company besides waymo to deploy but in a much smaller scale on a specific area with more controlled traffic. 2nd place is still good but their issue is companies are claiming what they're at not yet. Waymo has at least the double of data from the second place and that's really relevant for DL. Most didn't reach it bc of data
Uber, cruise, nutonomy, and several other companies have “deployed”. Depending on your metric for deploying. Also I don’t think that the current scale is stopping many of the current players ie zoox or aurora

I don't think most people on blind are in the autonomy industry, but from the outside every company is behind Waymo. Simple as that.
