Today I was being told by a friend that a SDEI didn't get promoted after 3 years has a higher chance to get pip if their team doesn't have good deliveries or a new mamager just came. I indid have a friend who got exceed ratings but didn't get promoted to SDEII for 4 years and got pip after 4 times of failed promotion. I have also failed 2 times of promotion. And I am wondering what should I do if I will get a Dev plan after the coming review cycle. I heard if you were just put into Dev plan, then it won't be put into your profile and the background check from other company won't find it out. However if you were put into Pivot or pip then it will be put into your profile and the background check from other company will find it out. Is that true? If that is true, when I interview should I tell the interviewer that I got devplan/Pivot/pips at Amazon? If not, does it matter if it was find out during background check? Also, in the worst case how long is the Dev plan to Pivot cycle, Pivot to pip cycle and pip to fired cycle? Thanks for any advice for people like me get into this awkward situation.

No pips and dev plans do not show up in about background checks. The company give any information besides your start and end dates and maybe your title
Thank you sincerely.
