Asking for a family member fresh out of college about accepting job offers...

"I have already accepted an offer for a position with a company this week. My expected start date is Janurary 7th, but I have other interviews lined up with companies in December. If I were to get an offer from one of those companies prior to my start date, would I legally or fiscally liable for anything from the company I accepted an offer from?"

No. You can back out of an accepted offer at any time for any reason. But the normal process should be to tell them before you accept that you are interviewing elsewhere and ask them how long they will hold the offer for you.

Depends on 1. Which state the job is in 2. Terms of the contract. If this is in CA, rest assured there will be no legal or financial ramifications.

No. Worst case scenario is they are blackballed from future positions with that company. Although even that is unlikely. As long as they are polite and professional about reneging most people will write it off due to your friend’s age.

The worse case is the manager you left holding the bag comes over to be your skip in the new company and you get perpetual pip. Or the old manager and new manager play racquetball together or whatever, and the new manager convinces the other guy youre unethical. I know examples of both of these. Would you be liable? Well if already got a signing bonus or relocation expenses your contract would probably say you need to pay those back. Otherwise, it is unlikely you would be at least in an at will employment state.
