I started a new job earlier this year, then a month into the role, my responsibilities shifted where im now taking on more than what i initially signed on for. Essentially, my then hiring mgr changed teams so I’m now also assuming their responsibilities. I feel justified to argue for a salary change given this new unofficial role, but I just found out that I’ll be expecting, which means I’ll most likely have to disclose it to my team in 2 months when I start to show.

Given that scenario, I dont know how I feel to ask for the salary change and then taking mat leave in 8mo. It will also be hard for me to ask for this salary change after returning from mat leave as well.

I want to be considerate to the team and company, but also conscious of my market value and worth as well. Thoughts/advice?

If you are already working at that capacity, do not feel guilty about asking for a raise and going on maternity leave. The leave is a company provided benefit and is your right to take when needed, should not have any impact on the raise issue.

If you think you're working more than what you signed up for, then ask for more money NOW. No one will give you a raise once they figure out you're expecting. It's the real world, face it, don't be naive

Ask! Maternity leave isn't related to your compensation!
I'm 7month pregnant and I was interviewing. Got 4 offers. Obviously, I'll need a maternity leave soon. It didn't stop me from negotiating the offer and maternity leave terms at the same time.

Ask now. You're working in that capacity so you should be compensated for the added responsibilities.

Girl! ..why you selling yourself short! You need to stand up for yourself ? Mat leave has nothing to do with the value you are bringing at work. It's a business transaction ...you are materially brining in X value at work ... You need to get paid a commensurate amount for thay.

Also... If you are having a girl make sure you raise her to be a disagreeable and a badass. We need women to stand up for themselves and not be agreeable and conciliatory in every situation and not blame patriarchy ... Take control !

Mat leave is irrelevant. You can get a raise and leave the company in 8 months too. Plenty of people do that. Pay is determined by your past and current work not your future career or personal moves
