Hi there, I'm currently working as a Software Engineer title and most of my work is dealing with data. I'm passionate about Data Science and has better skills on this than engineering, but our team is focusing on engineering so there is not much environment (projects as well as ppl) for the career I desire. I have both theoretical (how ML models work) and engineering (data processing, model training, visualization, etc.) skills needed for a data scientist (although not the type of researchers that write papers). Use both Python and R. My interest is in data mining (deriving insights from data and build prediction models), not machine learning (purely improve specific model performance). There are many Data Scientist jobs out there with a wide spectrum of what the job is really about, such as Data Analyst, BI, Data Engineer, ML Engineer, Applied Scientist, Software Engineer etc. So it'll be much appreciated if anyone can share how to figure out the correct job content as well as good company/area to work on for career growth as a Data Scientist. Many thanks in advance! :)

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Great question. Unfortunately, although it may seem a lot. There are few "good" and challenging data related problems here. So you will have to get in line.
Thanks! What does "get in line" mean?
It means there are a ton of very knowledgeable folks out here and not a lot of interesting work..... Folks will literally jump on an interesting project immediately. Unfortunately, like any big company the longer the tenure the easier it is to get an interesting project. And Google may have very interesting software problems but data science not many.
