I'm graduating this May and have a few offers but I really want to check out the Austin scene. Does anyone live there and like it a lot? What are some of the top companies in the area? I'm graduating with a degree in Electrical and Computer engineering from NCSU so I really enjoy hardware engineering positions but most of my experience is in software engineering. Does anyone have recommendations
If you are into hardware, National Instruments is based out of Austin, TI is there, AMD has a very big office too.
Pros: An advantage of Austin over the Bay Area is that although compensation is much lower, so is housing and COL. (Housing prices are soaring, but you can still get a nice house not too far out for 500k). Con: So hot. And it’s just not nearly as beautiful as the Bay Area or Seattle. Also isn’t as diverse as Bay Area.
Austin does not have the scope, opportunity and career growth compared to the bay area. If you are looking to 'slow it down' then Austin is good.

Be it HW or SW, Austin has got it all. Almost all the major companies have their offices and are mass migrating here. As a NCG, i think giving Austin a try would be a great idea.
Thanks for your reply! What hardware teams from Apple are in Austin? I'm in the process of interviewing for an FPGA Prototyping position at Apple but it's in Cupertino... trying to avoid going to CA, but would loove to work for Apple in Austin
I am not into HW, so wont be able to filter based on what you are looking , but apple is on a hiring spree, so do apply and if you need a referral, DM. Me. All the best
