I guess this would be the deciding factor? I wont say it rains heavy but it drizzles very frequently. I stay here and dont mind this but i see people pretty frustrated with continual drizzles. If you can bear this, its beautiful here.

Compare CoL between the two cities. That 70k gap is likely to decrease some when doing that. Summertime in Seattle will be way nicer. Wintertime you can get into snow sports here

There's much more to a city than just rain. But if you do hate rain/cold, easy decision. Don't come. 70k more money won't get you Sun. If you're depressed and down, you won't even get another son 😉

70k after taxes really isn't that much and I would assume your rent will go at least 1k to 2k higher for the same which means after covering the rent differences, not much is left over. Not to mention other cost of living differences

That’s additional 4k per month post tax. It’s lot of money and there are more tech opportunities in Seattle.

Take about 1.5k for extra living expenses, makes it 2.5k. Plus getting a promotion at my current company in a year or two would make it even less. I am trying to think longterm.

Winter is pretty good if you are into winter sports. Lots of Asians, Eastern Europeans and Americans in the ski resorts which are less than an hour distance from Seattle and surrounding cities. I don’t see many Indians when skiing so I guess you may not like it if you are from India. Lots of great ski resorts are driving distance including Whistler and some in Oregon.
      Jan 4
  • Microsoft lalalond
If you are Asian or Indian, Seattle is a pretty good city to live in. Huge Indian population (like almost half of school kids have parents from India). Lots of Asian groceries and restaurants due to historical Japanese immigrants (so many sushi restaurants). Decent Russian population (not just engineers). If you are black or latino, you may not like the demographics here since they are very rare and most of black people are African immigrants. If you enjoy the diversity, it has very good balance in the eastside of Seattle. A lot of mixed race couples and their kids (usually Asian and white). Very high income neighbors which makes the town safe and people you encounter are educated (not necessarily friendly though).

Switch for the higher TC, get hired on at a company with offices in Austin and Seattle. Switch to team in Austin with the TC you had in Seattle. Bam, winning (assuming company doesn't adjust TC)

Naw. Watch Seattle traffic on g-maps starting Jan 11. Also there are 50,000 homeless here no shit. Is there a wooded area near your work/home? It has a drug camp in it guaranteed. They cleaned up several full 5 gal buckets of needles at one camp near Facebook in Queen Anne last year.
