Amazon’s success has made Bernie very uncomfortable. He’s not a fan of successful companies, or of private sector employment. It’s time to pull us in.
Amazon's success is something great according to any liberal. The issue is that success only helped a helped a handful of employees in top and a bunch of tech workers. It did not trickle down to a warehouse employee. The conditions in Amazon warehouses is near slavery. A successful company is great for a nation but when you compare the success of Amazon in 2010 with success of Ford in 50s, one thing is clear. Amazon's success helped only Bezos and a few. Ford success helped build huge towns full of middle class people who could afford a decent life.
If it’s so bad, why do so many people choose to work there, and seemingly enjoy it. Your whole argument is prefaced in the fact that these employees are miserable and their only choice to work is in slavery at an FC. That’s simply not true. If it’s as bad as what you say, and what Bernie says, these people wouldn’t be there.
I’m with Bernie.
Much needed. Top executives are taking too much away from everyone.
How much are they taking, because amazon basically breaks even on retail operations.
I think it’s interesting that he decided to focus on Amazon so recently. I’m a liberal but just like the Seattle Head tax this is a stupid idea that won’t go anywhere. But let’s play along. Many warehouse employees are paid just above minimum wage because that’s what the government has allowed. If the minimum wage isn’t a livable wage whose fault is that? Instead of fixing the real issue, raising minimums so companies actually have to pay more, Bernie wants to collect money from the corporation. What happens when it turns out paying this tax is actually cheaper than giving employees a raise? People will still be underpaid and overworked. This is the kind of pre-election posturing that doesn’t help our cause at all.
It’s a way of telling a bully to behave
Already posted it. Note to all you geniuses who think you outsmarted a senator with 3 seconds of thought - yes it covers contractors, too.
Ah. I didn't see your post.
Amazon will just eliminate the part time workers, forcing them to go full time or be terminated, who are the only ones paid low enough to qualify for food stamps and then instead of having some income those people will have no income and draw even more food stamps.
