All this TC talk sounds real circle-jerky, I think we can get a better sense of !(real cash) a paycheck if we talk base pay. The definition of TC is too vague, bonuses can vary based on performamce, stocks fluctuate, and some perks that would cost others ( e.g. on-site day care) are just difficult to estimate, and glassdoor sucks. The singular reason why tech companies split compensation into cash and stock is because it's tax effective on their side. Google can very well just pay a $400k cash salary instead of $160 + $240k worth of GOOG. They choose not to because once you receive the stock you can sell it and turn it into cash, so it makes no difference on your end but all the difference on their end. They'd pay you cash + bars of gold if that were more tax effective.
But why the elaborate vesting structure?

My base pay this year was < 35% of my W2 income. What is the point of asking about base pay?
Where I work, there isn't much more worth than base pay, so all the "extras" people post on here doesn't mean shit to me. I survive thanks to base pay and what drops into my bank account every 2 weeks. Any stock or bonus is virtually chump change, so that is why I ask about base pay.
