Back to techie from mgmt?

Need serious suggestions from all. No bs plz!! I am a Sr Mgr now. Done pre sales, Proj Mgmt, service delivery mgr, internal sales, lead dev, developer roles. 14yrs exp - engineer+mba. I now feel bored in present role (proj mgr). PM challenges are pretty easy. Techies solve real challenges. Would anyone suggest me going back to technical role? Architect/ lead? Anyone done this before? Any guidance ?

Ok why dont you focus on moving up in your ladder to becoming a vp or evp? Who gives direction to company. Plus the salaries are awesome. My evp earns 20 million per year and he is from Harvard business school.

I have not done this but know people who have done so. You have listed the pros of techie here which are correct. If you afford losing the pros of being a mgmt guy in your org, go for it, if not good move, it would definitely solve this mystery for your career ahead as in what exact role would suit you

I would not go back to just being a techie guy. If you need challenge, more toward more strategic roles in the management. Roles such as product design or product owner requires solving complex business challenges.

Product manager require set of technical, marketing, communication and ability to research. If your company does not have this skills, start acting like a product manager by voicing your ideas about existing products.
