While conducting a cursory online search on a person I just connected with on a dating website, I happened to chance upon two sites which mentioned a person with the same name as this person as having an arrest & criminal record. One of the sites was mylife and even had a photo of the person. On reading other consumer reviews about mylife, I got to know that it has been accused of scamming customers. But that was regarding consumer reviews. Even if I believe the site to be fake, it may have aggregated said info. from other websites (as an aggregator). I'm therefore unsure now how to proceed. While I'm not crazy about this guy, I do like his profile enough (which itself is saying a lot given the other profiles I've seen) that I would at least like to interact with him if THIS weren't a concern. Any pointers? If not this site, are there legit sites one could get genuine background info. from? I'd so like my findings to be false, but until I know for sure, I'm kinda stuck & really dithering on taking the next step.
court cases are public information, you shouldn’t need to pay to find out. The county website will likely have that information available.
Thanks, googling the person's name didn't turn up any governmental/ court case info. I wonder if this means there are no court cases against him. Does a criminal record necessitate a court case?
Check the gov sites, that’s where those shady sites scrape their info from
Don’t they say always say “possible criminal record found” for everybody to scam people into paying?
There are legit scams like this. But there are also fraudsters on dating sites. Treat him like he has one strike against him already, especially sensitive to fraud issues
Sorry, that's a hard criterion for me. I'm not aware of any genuine background check sites, the gov sites seem to take me into a rabbit-hole of further searches.
Buy a membership to a background check site. It’s not expensive.
Any legit ones you may be personally aware of?
Considering the United States love affair with incarceration, why is a criminal record a concern? A sentence served is referred to “rehabilitation”, so why should it matter?
Not all love affairs are misguided.
Interesting. Here’s the origin of this love affair https://www.npr.org/templates/transcript/transcript.php?storyId=751126384
If they say he's got a criminal record look up the country and check the actual records.
Thanks, the country is the US. To divulge further info., the site requires payment. I would consider paying if I knew the site was reliable. Hence the dilemma
Don't pay the lame aggregator site. Do search on the courts and records in the city/county the target lives in.
