Seems like every time I read the news in the US there's always an article about a bank robbery. Generally, I assume people at bank branches especially the relationship managers and what not, make good money. But with all of these robberies and the prevalence of guns is it safe to work at a bank branch in America? If anyone works at a bank I'm curious to know whether you've witnessed a robbery. What kind of protocols do you have in place? Do you feel safe? lol.
From just a quick google search the last bank robbery in the US that resulted in a death of bank staff was 1984 I fully admit I didn’t spend too much time researching this so I could be wrong but suffice to say getting killed in a bank robbery as an employee is not something statistically relevant to consider when seeking job employment
It's very rare that anyone is hurt in a bank robbery. Robberies are not rare, but also not common, and in most cases no one gets hurt. Banks advise their employees to cooperate with bank robbers to avoid anyone getting hurt. The banks use time lock cash dispensers and other things to minimize how much cash is actually accessible to the tellers to limit how much a robber can get away with. They will get a few grand max, to get more they have to wait twenty minutes for the time lock cash machine to dispense more, by which time the police will have surrounded the bank. So the robbers grab the couple thousand in the till and run, generally without anyone getting hurt. So it's safe. Most bank employees will never be involved in a robbery and most of those who do experience one will not be involved in one where there was actual violence.
Bank robberies are one of the worst crimes to commit. You’ll usually get a pitiful amount of money and be in handcuffs before you leave the building.
You have to be extraordinarily dumb to try and rob a bank. Working at a bank is no more or no less riskier than any other job.
Banks are full of cameras and pretty much everyone gets caught. The most common type of robbery is just some crackhead passing a note with a threat to a teller. And then they get arrested ten minutes later.
This is why i work at a corporate location instead of as a teller :) youre job is literally to just give them the money
I’ve worked in a bank branch before. And I’ve been robbed as well. Most robbers don’t have a gun. Most are drug addicts and are more scared than the tellers. Even as robberies were happening, most people in the branch don’t even know. They just slip a note and ask for cash. If they’re lucky, they’ll get $2,000. It’s extremely dumb to do. Banks will go after people for just a couple of dollars, imagine the staff they have solely dedicated to catching bank robbers and preventing them from doing it again. The cameras will easily get a clear picture even if you’re wearing a hood and sunglasses. Most are immediately caught. Also the head of our regional security team used to work for the FBI.
Now that's a team I'd love to be on
If they don’t have a weapon, why give them anything?
I think you need to read a different news outlet
