I had an on-site for an Android position. In the coding interview I got nervous and stumbled through parts of it, and my solution was missing a path in the end. It was a LC medium. I feel I did well/ok in the system design interview, and very well in the manager interview. Do I still have a chance at an offer even performing poorly on the coding portion? Current TC: 160kish
Yes. It will depend on how well you did in other coding rounds or coding challenge.
So they do take into consideration my code challenge for the screening? That is good to know. I guess I will wait and see this week.
Yes, everything in the hiring process is considered as a signal while making the final call, except for the optional lunch with a team member.
Could you please share your onsite experience?
Are you going for an Android or general software eng interview? I got there, recruiter gave me a brief tour. First round was a hackerrank code pair exercise with two interviewers. LC medium. They don't care about typos in syntax or if you have to use pseudo code. You have about 45 minutes to code when factoring in intros and the last 10 minutes for questions. 2nd round was an open ended system design question, for me they asked me to describe and whiteboard how I would build an Android feature. I feel the interviewers did a good job at not stressing me out and prodding me along when needed, but maybe I let them help me too much. Then you have lunch with another employee, it isn't an interview but don't say anything that would be a red flag. Last interview was with a manager and a staff engineer. They asked me about jobs from the last seven years. Asked who my manager was, what their positive feedback about me would be, what their negative feedback was, and how I improved. Be sure to own your failures and not blame other people or circumstances. They look for a growth mindset. I got great, very detailed advice from my recruiter, I suggest asking the recruiter, as they are incentivised for you to get hired and want to help. Overall I feel I did poorly in code pairing, and I probably didn't use the whiteboard well enough for system design, and maybe didn't clarify what they wanted well enough. DM me if you have any other questions.
Thanks for your reply. I will have interviews for genenal SE position. I will also have four rounds too, should be the same as yours.
