Hello everyone, I've received an offer from numerous companies in the bay, London, and other European cities for research engineer positions in computer vision. I am in my early thirties, single, and a US citizen. If you were in my position, which location would you pick? Would you pick the position with the highest pay (Bay)? Or would you prefer a more balanced life in Europe? Best, Me
Make it a poll? I would prefer Bay Area. Wouldn’t want to move out of US (assuming you were born here). London is also expensive and dirty. Where else in Europe?
I've already lived in various European cities so I'm used to living outside of the US. London seems interesting from a cultural perspective. Bay Area seems to offer much less unless you're willing to commute from SF.
Personally I would pick a company that would allow me to work from Europe a couple of months in a year with bay area as base.
Balance. Life!! Bay Area is crazy .... crazy traffic. Crazy work hours. Crazy expensive. Crazy expectations.
Don't confused highest paid with highest net income :)
Adjusted for tax and COL, bay is highest paid.
Regarding purchasing power im not so sure, but will double check
London is dirty? SF is the dirtiest and grossest city I’ve ever seen
London is dirty but not as bad as NY or Seattle. I haven’t been to SF so I can’t compare.
Have lived/worked in London and the Bay Area and that’s no contest for me - nothing would ever compel me to go back to SF. Salaries will be lower in London, but it’s a vastly better lifestyle. I’d personally find Zurich dull, but it’s handy for travel.
Also, London is insanely clean nowadays - wasn’t like that when I lived there years ago, not even on visits back a few years ago, but when I was there last year, it was my most noticeable surprise.
London or Zurich -The US is just not an attractive place for Someone over the age of 30 unless your super obsessed about making money .If money is your sole objective you could go to the Bay Area ,Live with roommates for 5 years and exit somewhere cheap .

You can’t go wrong with Bay Area as long as you can afford it.
Depends on what you like. A lot of people don't want to be surrounded by tech and tech people. I find it suffocating.
Go to Sf and you will find anything and everything. Bay Area isn’t just Silicon Valley. There is a lot here as long as people want to explore.
