Nerdwallet says 200K in SF should be about 143K in SD. https://www.nerdwallet.com/cost-of-living-calculator/compare/san-francisco-ca-vs-san-diego-ca I live in SD, TC 160K and have a great standard of living imo. I could buy a house here but have no chance unless I made a ton more in the bay area. Lived in Alameda 3 years ago, paid 2275 for a 2 bedroom apartment and commuted to SF for 1+ hours on average. Now I have a 20 min commute, live in a luxury complex in La Jolla and pay < 2000/month with about a 10 min drive to the best beach in SD. Best move of my life. Highly recommend :D
I should mention I have a 1 bedroom. If you want a 2 bedroom then yeah they're more expensive, but still quite a bit less than what a 2 bedroom in SF would be!
I keep seeing posts from people talking about 1.5k in Mira Mesa and 2k in nice areas, but no one posted at least few examples. The link above shows starting price at 2.3k, but there is no availability at this price
Well, how about commute from Mira Mesa to downtown(where most of new startups are)? Again to UTC you will sit in the traffic for about 45 minutes. And just checked padmapper, 1b starts from 2k
Proof? I want to see decent remodeled apartment for $1600 Edited: 3 days and you haven't responded. That means you're opinion is wrong and shouldn't be taken into consideration.
apple to apple comparison for apartment is Sunnyvale to Mira Mesa (zipcode 92126). you will find 700-800 per month difference in rent. about 10k annually. not significant. however, when coming to buying a home, you will find a big difference.
Seriously. OP is moving to San Diego not Phoenix. It gets hotter for couple of months and colder couple of months. While Bay Area is much more colder than San Diego.
Ask same salary as Bay Area. Quality of life is better in San Diego. Nice warm beaches. You will get cheaper rent and better homes with less prices. All your Bay Area friends will be jealous of you once you move.

Ofcourse nice weather tax, beach tax are subjective. Anyway, to each his own.
One big difference is you can still buy a 500K town home there. Forget about the same house any less than a million here.
Compare what you get in bay area and stay at the same quality. It's comparable to Mira Mesa, Clairmont, Poway
