My current salary in AUSTIN , TX is 160k base + 15% bonus + 50k RSUs vest over 3 years I am getting few offers from bay area like 150k base + approx 10% Bonus + 150k RSUs vest over 4 years Should i take it ? Considering high cost of living in Bay area how much i should shoot for from my current salary ?
You may need more base. Stocks can be flaky
Not worth for the move. We got state tax which is not in TX.
Your cost of living is 3-4x, and your net income will be decreased more than the 10k due to taxes. I hope to God you aren't being hired into a commercial role, unless it's at my competitor...
Cost of living 3-4x ? Even if i don't want to buy a home ?
Yes. Rent is 3x what I paid in Chicago and I feel like I have a good deal. Could easily have be 4x depending on location.
You have a better quality of living with that salary in Texas than 200K base in the Bay Area
But if i don't want to buy a home then it won't be that different no ?
Rents are still 3K plus
Decline them.
Out of curiosity, why do you want to move? Is it for career growth? Feel Texas Life with that salary will be better than what was offered to you in Bay
Bay Area is like a mousetrap - those inside can't wait to get out, those outside can't wait to get in!
Trust what you are reading here, OP; housing here is the highest in the country practically. Even just renting a small apartment. You would need to really be making $$$$$$$ for it to be better living than what you have now
Don't do it. I got a 50% raise in base when I moved 3 years ago and still I think so.
Wtf 160 base in Tx and you want to come to the Bay for same or lower? Are you insane? Just interview other companies in Austin G,F,A, e they are all there
How many years exp? I assume they're big companies because RSU's?
10 years .. offers are from companies like Apple etc
Yeah, def negotiate at least your current base. Could probably get $165-170 if you push.
