Hey all, first time posting here! I’m looking at opportunities after staying at my first job for three years (180k TC), and I’m wondering if the list of companies below is reasonable (wanna get into Data Engineering / Backend role) - Google - Airbnb - Two Sigma - Citadel - Addepar - Stripe - PDT Partners - DE Shaw - Rubrik Prioritization for the next two years is roughly TC (duh), getting into more hands-on dev work, and a supporting learning/growth environment. Does any company fall short in the list, and is there anyone you’d like to add? (Also happy to chat about my experience at current employer as well 😊)
Facebook is not on the list. Use Cisco as a burner interview to get yourself in interview mode. Car tech: Cruise, Waymo, MBRDNA, Volvo SV, BMW SV, Uber, and Lyft. Alphabet companies.
ah yes, I’m pretty confused by their Careers page, as there’s no good way to narrow down my search, and they seem to look for very experienced (6+ YOE) people only. should I try to get a referral instead?
Facebook career page?
Are you in data eng now? I've been thinking of applying to Palantir for it but it seems like they want higher clearance than I've ever had. How's the culture there? Would you recommend it?
actually I’ll just respond here — clearance requirement depends on whether you work with gov and which exact project you work on, and it’s absolutely not a requirement (unless you explicitly wanna do gov work). culture here is pretty chill tbh, and I’ve worked from / visited pretty much every US-based office.
LinkedIn (duh)
Let me know if you're interested in qualtrics
Except Rubrik, Stripe and Airbnb, all have great engineering culture and teams. First two I'm not familiar with. Airbnb is not a true tech company, too product and design oriented. You will learn little from data and back eng perspective. Downside with hedge fund is you work with thing that dont drive business directly so how ever they put it you are second class citizen. You will not an impact in Google because it is that big. Addepar is going through transition, looks promising, but honestly won't be the easiest job on that list.
Thank you for commenting! As I’m proceeding with my interviews, I think eventually I’m gonna have to make a call between the following: Google, Stripe, Addepar, PDT, TwoSigma, Citadel. What should I be looking at (other than TC) when considering these companies? None of the roles above are “quant”, and my focus is data/infra engineering.
If you’re currently working at Addepar, I’d love to hear more about the company as well! I’m especially curious about how/why folks from, say, TwoSigma are leaving to join Addepar, and why it “won’t be the easiest job.” Thank you!
Where did you end up joining? If it is PDT, would like to learn more about the work culture

Lyft, Uber, Netflix?
yup good point on Lyft and Netflix; for Uber, I’ve heard they give amazing offers but the culture/engineer quality there is subpar... should I still give it a shot?
3 YOE is quite little for Netflix.
