How many of you have been called to work on a Sunday cause no one knows how to freaking do your work? How do u just say no and you aren't being paid to work on a st. Pat's freaking Sunday?
Never (not to say I never worked on Sundays).
Sorry if there is no way to remote in, I’m out.
My SRE team is oncall with about one page a week. But we also have three kegerators in the office to appease the alkies.
The golden rule: Never push to prod on a Friday.
If no one else knows how to do your work, this is your fault.
Just ask for payment (big enough for you to be interested even if the amount is crazy) and if not then say you're out of the city when being called. Suggest to hire someone for weekend work.
Do you mean while not on call? I dont even carry my phone around with me on weekends, so good luck
Never been called in, but plenty of times Friday night we know it’s gonna be a long weekend push (and really it starts to become obvious before Friday)...plenty of long weekends in the office and canceled plans. But never completely out of the blue half way through my Sunday have I had to drop everything and head in. I wouldn’t stand for that
Great insight..but how do I address the fact that I don't wanna work on a Sunday night because no one else knows this?😩 I mean technically shouldn't the company pay you for being asked to do stuff out of the blue
If you’re salary; no. If you are annoyed that there isn’t any depth in your position take active steps to remedy that either by training someone, properly documenting various things, force your company to hire to provide depth, etc. It’s definitely not in your company’s best interest to have you be the single point of failure that they keep pushing towards the door by calling you in on sundays
