Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Do most companies do that? At Apple so far all new grad offers being given to interns I know are hourly. Seems like a huge bump in TC if you can push for ~50 hour weeks, but I’ve heard promos are slower at Apple...
Even if it’s hourly, can you actually do 50-60 billable hours a week regularly? I’d assume anything over 40 would require business need & justification.
Probably depends on the team
Hourly pay feels against the nature of the work. I'd be wary of working any place that paid full time software developers hourly, just feels like a red flag about management.
Don’t know if it is still the case but at Facebook in some non-Eng orgs, FB paid hourly for IC1 and IC2, and it was common to bill more than 40 hours. I heard of many instances where 2’s actually took an effective pay cut when promoted to a 3 because of no more overtime.
Of course, none were developers, since I don’t think we level devs that low
In Eddy’s org at Apple new grads start at ICT3 which is salaried instead of hourly
Common practise at Apple to pay hourly for ICT 1 & ICT 2 and also they typically do not provide any RSU when you are ICT 1 / ICT 2. Also, it's a very common practise to bill for more than 40 hrs, that makes up for the missed RSU comp. The major hitch is that its difficult to move from ICT 2 to ICT 3 in a year...so you not only miss the intial RSU but you also miss the 1st year Refresher RSU.... Just my 2 cents try to negotiate and get a ICT 3.
What is the rate?
110k yearly so like $52
Only $8 above intern pay. Out of curiosity what’s average stock and signing?
