We are considering debating between buying a home in Redmond vs Bellevue. My kid is in gifted school and will go to middle school next year. Any one researched on pros and cons and can share some insights? If your kids went to interlake did you think it was beneficial compared to lwsd in high school in terms of college readiness? We are inclining towards Bellevue because of interlake program.
Interlake program looks good outside but students during 10 and 11 grade are stressed crazy. Few teachers are ok rest is self study. English and Humanities takes lot of time so less time for STEM courses. And then the IB program gets less credit unless one takes HL level courses. Have you open to their open houses?
Have you been to theit open house.... Where their counsellor will openly tell that your kido will cry, gets less sleep and not much time to do extracurriculars. If your kido is superesmart then go for it Grades will suffer from 10 onwards as program gets tough
I wouldn't say my kid is supersmart. Very passionate about STEM though but jovial nature and hates working hard 😀. Seems like interlake is not right approach for my kid.
Go to IB program website. HL is high level courses and SL is standard level courses. One need to complete IB in two years so one can take only so many HL courses which are valued by Universities.
I see. Thank you. I will read up more on this. Good to know that IB is not valued by universities relatively.
UW gives extra credits for doing IB diploma in addition to credits for HL classes. Overall beach university has its own rules, some give credits for SL classes etc.
What do you mean UW gives extra credits? How is that determined? If your grade point is 3.5 with HL, how does that compare to general 3.5?
If your kid is smart than do Bellevue. Otherwise lwdd
Inglemoor on East end of Northshore district: full IB program and serious academics. No jocks
Hey OP, I know it has been years and you may not be active but what did you decide? Did your kid go to Bellevue?
Your kid will need to do test again in LWSD. The district is much more competitive. I would pick Bellevue. If your kid passed full CoGAT when joined gifted, it will be possible to join without new testing. Also unlike LWSD, BSD has gifted program in High school.
