Benefits Package

Sep 25, 2017 14 Comments

I have been approached about coming onboard with Slalom as (what I assume) is a data architect with Tableau/Alteryx. If I were to move, it would be to the Dallas office. Reviews I have received from friends that work there and Glassdoor show what a fun environment it is to work for. My question is more along the lines of benefits... Can you provide info for the following:

1. Salary range
2. Bonuses
3. PTO (vacation and sick time)
4. Insurance
5. 401k

Anything else I could've missed?

Thanks, but I didn’t need help on translation. Comp may be a little lower, but so is cost of living. Oh yeah, also no state income tax. Agreed on “okayish,” and I say that as a long-time Dallasite. Lots of pretty people and flat concrete. But then again, you’re on Texas, so that’s pretty much a huge win.

I'm sorry. Wasn't trying to step on your toes, just trying to play it straight re: Dallas' tech sector.

The no state income tax works out so long as you rent. The property tax evens things out a fair bit if you choose to own. Throwing things through a cost of living calculator, SV still tends to noticably win out on comp - however I don't think they take into account marginal federal tax rates.

It's awesome you've got a company you love - that is worth a ton.

You may be more experienced than I re: Dallas’ tech sector. Didn’t mean to sound harsh. My apologies.

But you totally nailed it: working for a company you love - and one that demonstrates same in actions (not words) - that is “pert’-near” priceless!

Best job I ever had, full stop.

Honestly just ask the recruiter for all this except the comp. They probably have a PDF with the benefits.

  • Hayek what would the competitive salary range be in Dallas area? I understand the COL is different than other offices around the country. I hear nothing but great things about the company, but taking a cut (large or small) I would like to prepare if need be.

Oh man, I have no idea how to describe that. I would actually go to Glassdoor if I were you. Where are you living now?

    • I looked at GlassDoor but couldn't really find one role that appeared to be what it seems I was approached about... The range appears to be from $120-150k for BI developers. Is that a fair assessment?

Translation: comp is low in Dallas but the town is okayish and affordable so it kind of works out so long as you aren't aiming for early retirement extreme.

Keep in mind the travel, you will spend a lot of time driving to client sites and being staffed out. Plan that, it is not expenseable, so you carry the cost out of your paycheck.

That's not correct. Any travel over your normal commute to the office is expensable. Therefore the only thing u have to anticipate is a commute time that can vary. My commute time now is 30 minutes less to my client and I'll be here a year. It all balances out.

Yeah. I can't bill any travel time thanks. No to mention they make it painful to bill my miles. Not worth my time.

My experience over the last couple years is that any benefit difference has been outweighed like 10x in purpose, job satisfaction and overall happiness working with such an awesome team at Slalom Dallas.
