I’m using FXSIX in Fidelity for my 401K, which has 0.03% expense ratio, but it is 100% stocks. I want to move to a safer one. To give context for risk calculation, I’m 33, and i have 47K in my 401K. Any suggestions for a safer Fidelity fund for 401K, with more balanced stock/bond ratio?
Buy SPX500
Might be worth looking up three-fund portfolios. There’s lots of variation based on your risk tolerance. I do roughly the following with institutional classes: FSKTX (60%), FSPNX (30%), FXSTX (10%).
30% Fidelity Contrafund. 70% BrokerageLink
I put 10% each in 10 different fund and getting about 18%
Which 10?
How is target fund at fidelity?
Thank you for your answers, this is very helpful. I have a separate 3-fund portfolio in vanguard, but not in 401K, so i will give it a try. Follow-up questions I have are: 1) Is it reasonable to go with a more aggressive asset allication in 401K (e.g. 90/10 stock/bond ratio) compared to other investments ( because it is for longer term use)? 2) Can I buy Vanguard funds (e.g. vtsax) instead of Fidelity funds for my 401K, although my 401K is in Fidelity?
Yes, you can buy Vanguard, IShares, etc even if Fidelity is your broker
2) will depend on what fund offerings your 401k plan provides. 401ks are usually restricted to a specific set of funds rather than what is available that you can normally access in other retirement/individual accounts. Though, based on the institutional fidelity index fund you posted, i believe it’s a better ratio than Vanguard.
At 33 you should be in riskier investments. Buy index funds as very few active managers beat their benchmarks
Just do 90% FXSIX and 10% TLT ( or some other bond fund)
