Best TC for embedded/Firmware engineer

How much do you think a embedded/firmware engineer can make in Bay Area with 8 yoe? Will it be always less compared to a software engineer? I am thinking to move to sw role if that is true. Current TC 180k Location Sacramento

Yeah. But my role is a mix of low level system and modern c++. Hard to call it pure embedded or firmware. More software oriented.
