Been looking for a home in Seattle for a while now. Ideally considering a place with better than avg schools and has market strength (home value does not drop significantly) in case of an eventual recession. TC is 350k. Price range is 600-800K Closest option I have found is a single family home near west shoreline(close to innis arden) because of it's safe neighborhood and good school ratings. Also think it would provide a better appreciation than similarly priced townhomes in Ballard/Ravenna area. Couple of downsides I see is the commute but I guess that's common for any home I would consider per my price range(unless it's a townhome in Ballard), also it will not get any benefits of the upcoming infrastructure upgrades like Lynnwood (link extension) Any recommendations on alternative options that could be considered and why??
Bothell
Why do you think it would fare better than shoreline/other areas?
Well run city with new downtown. Used to be boring bedroom community but now has restaurants and a new Mcmaniman's. https://www.redfin.com/WA/Bothell/19518-94th-Ave-NE-98011/unit-46/home/12304655 20 minutes walk from downtown, nice size for a family, 2010 so no old house funk (sorry I meant charm). In your price range you could do worse.
Shoreline is a good bet. I live in QA, but don’t believe in it’s upside the same as shoreline
How is it a good bet if you dont see any upside??
Upside in shoreline > upside in QA IMO
Price is too low, maybe a fixer under 1m in the good neighborhoods. Worth the wait. Location is key.
So which location would you recommend to look out for?
Something about the phrase "fixer under 1m" really bothers me
Ravenna and green lake is nice. Close to the city and I believe it will appreciate a lot when the new light rail is finished in 2021.
Not Seattle proper for the thousandth time. Eastside is the only side worth living in.
Sammamish would probably fit the best given your budget. Redmond if you can live under 2k sq feet and don't oppose split entry or basement. Both have very good schools and suburban residential charm while being not too far off from nice downtown.
You can buy a lot in Columbia City and there's virtually no traffic commuting on Rainier.
Bump your price up to 1m+ then you will get lots more options
Not in the cards for the near future unfortunately
With that high TC? You need $200k down-payment for $1m.
