What would be the best place to live for a couple where my wife works at Apple, Cupertino, and I work in the city. We want to find something which is good in commute for both of us. I was thinking of Colma or South SF, I can take bart and she can drive or take the shuttle. However, Colma is a dead people city :o Any other suggestions??? TC: 220K
Pretty rough commute all around. I’d recommend San Mateo if your work is close to Caltrain. It’s the nicest of the suburban cities imo and roughly midway between sf and Cupertino.
West San Mateo. It's a clear shot on 280 to Cupertino and easy trip to Colma or San Bruno BART for you. Optimizing slightly for her sanity since it sounds like she'll have more to do and your WLB is better.
Change job or wife.
Lol - both of us changed our jobs recently, so can't switch for a year at least. As for changing wife, I wish I work at Uber so I can be encouraged by my fellow dick colleagues to sexually harass someone and get dumped by my wife
This comment is so epic that Uber cancelled their IPO.
Half Moon Bay or San Luis Obispo.
No kids? If so, live in SF and have the wife commute by Apple’s shuttle system which is pretty good.
In a house
I recommend optimizing for one persons commute. So someplace like Cupertino or MTV would enable you to get to SF via BART. It’s about a 1.5 hour total commute as a couple, splitting it evenly is a pain as neither of you would be able to attend to any emergency or issues at home easily.
Who does more of house work like cooking, cleaning, baby stuff (if you have one)? Also, who has better work hours?
She does cooking most of the times (4 times a week) while I help her, we do cleaning on weekends, and no kids yet. I have better work hours and wlb.
Maybe then keep the house closer to her workplace... living in San Mateo would mean a 50 min commute for her in peak traffic (courtesy: Waze). How about Redwood city (don’t know much about location, safety etc.)
