Best place to rent a 1 bedroom apartment for a single guy working at Microsoft?

I like to have some amazing restaurants near to where I live, malls, etc. I also need to stay close to Microsoft but the closest set of apartments to Microsoft don't have close access to great restaurants, good downtown, etc. I don't want to travel more than 6-7miles to office.

Which place should I stay while working at MSFT Redmond? Budget for rent is $1800/month

I don’t think there’s anything meeting your criteria in redmond compared to 731 lexington ave

I think bellevue would be better in terms of restaurants and malls with a somewhat better redmond commute than seattle. I don’t live in pnw any more and cannot speak for the rent

you could also live in downtown seattle. denny’s triangle is close to freeway ramp and walking distance to shops and restaurants in downtown seattle. might have to settle for studio to meet your budget

Capitol Hill in Seattle is probably the closest place meeting your criteria. Some will recommend Bellevue downtown, but doesn't have character IMO. Don't worry about the commute too much, lots of people do it and are fine with it. But your main issue is the rent budget. You might get a tiny studio or something for that.

The Seattle -> Redmond commute is an hour each way on the Connector, including walking to and from the stops. Last year I lived in “boring” Bellevue with a 20 min car commute. I’d take Bellevue any day, I really dislike this commute.

You don't need to put "boring" between quotes. It truly is boring. Even Seattle is boring compared to similar cities around the world, but it's better than nothing.

I’d recommend downtown Bellevue, it’s more walkable then Redmond unless you live right next to the Redmond town center. Also it’s easier to get to Seattle.

So basically no 1 bed apartment can be rented for $1.8K or below?

I think honestly you should come and search. I once got a really good deal from a private owner on Capitol Hill just because he liked people from Microsoft. Apparently they don't trash the places.

Also joining Microsoft, check out AVA Capitol Hill! Great location and right next to the Connector shuttle. I don't think you can get a nice 1 bd for 1.8k anywhere in Seattle, a studio is probably the most realistic.

Keeing all other things aside, why are your leaving Amazon for Microsoft? Please be as detailed as possible. Just make sure you don't accidentally reveal your identity

Was an ex intern. Was kinda meh about it. I kept hearing amazing things about Microsoft from my friends there, and I knew several intern coworkers that were jumping to Microsoft and ditching their Amazon return offers
