What’s the best strategy you’ve used to negotiate and increase you salary, benefits and perk?
When they first ask you what your expectations are, jokingly say 3-5 million. This joke may not seem like much, and they know you’re joking if delivered appropriately, but actually gets them to jump to the higher end of your salary band. If you have another offer, that’s great leverage, if you don’t say that you’re looking for XX amount and remain steadfast. OR you can negotiate for non-salary terms, e.g. more allotted paid vacation in the first 2 years, flexible work-remote or hours, Job title change (to more senior if possible, level (though sometimes hard to change), project placement if that’s an option, or have them agree to reimburse a common expense like gym, parking, etc if they don’t normally offer that.
I would personally end the process if somebody jokingly said that to me. Either be upfront or don't say anything at all. I don't want to hear 3-5 month joke when asking when the project will be done. We are adults.
I’m sorry for the person who pissed in your Cheerios. Seriously, lighten up and enjoy the world. Stop taking yourself so seriously, we all end up dying anyways.
Be really fucking good at what you do, and be able to show it. Also as mentioned above, don’t lie, tech is a small world.
Best negotiate anything tip: Listen.
Just decline first offer saying it does not match your expectations.
people saying don't lie, can you please explain your perspective? imo it is fine as long as you are happy to walk away from the offer. say you say you need 120k when company is saying 100k. if you are happy to walk away from that offer it is fine to say that you already have an offer for more than 120k. because they might just say yeah take the other one as it's too much for us.
You are not under oath. Don't listen to them.
That’s not lying that’s negotiating. I mean clearly bullshitting about your previous experience.
Know that if you have made it to the offer they are not going to back out if you ask for more. Worst case they say no. Also remembering that it takes years to recover from a low offer helps me build the courage to ask for what I'm worth.
Don’t volunteer unnecessary information. The more info the recruiter has of your current situation the less power you have in the convo
get multiple offers from prestigious companies. if you have only one offer and if your current TC is low dont share it, instead share what you would like to get.
