Current YOE: 1.5 Y, shifted as SDE-2 in a startup 5 months back. TC: (28L) 24 Lakhs INR (Base) + 4 Lakhs INR (Variable), no stocks. Roles Interested: Backend and Distributed Systems. I know it a lot to ask, but I have general doubts about the overall lifestyle. 1) What best to learn to keep myself in top demand, when do I apply to another company and if so in what kind of companies? 2) I know TC is not all that matters in life, but what kind of TC progress should I aim for? 3) Are Algorithms all that matters while applying to top companies, or work done, knowledge of things like Kafka, Hbase, Dropwizard of any use? Basically, I am looking for some general-purpose suggestions of what you would do if you were in my position. Any help is appreciated. :) Feel free to ask anything.
In which company you are working for 1.5 yr you are paid 28L
I am sorry, can't disclose my company, as I have written above, it's a Startup. Can easily identify me.
Ok
OP just FYI, when you look to join mainstream companies like Google, Amazon, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Uber you'll likely fall in the SDE2 category for which the cash component is generally not more than 25 for folks less the 3 years of exp. You can increase TC only in aspect of stocks and bonus which you can push to another 7-8 lakhs an year at best. But joining mainstream companies from startup will be a huge culture shift and you'll have to work your way up from the bottom of the pyramid. My advise is continue working for your startup, strengthen your niche skills and look for jobs outside India to get a real bump in TC
@Paypal your research is not right. I know people with 2 yoe and TC ~50 and base above 30. Only thing you need is some competing offers and then see. Even with 3 yoe, there are companies offering above 40L base easily .
@Paypal, thanks for your suggestions, but I thought Amazon SDE-2 Base ranges from 25 L to 45 L, @Microsoft, what would you if you were in my position. Prep Algos, and apply to SDE2 at top companies once YOE is 2.5?
28L is a lot with 1.5YOE.
Yeah, but companies are offering such comps., How is it in Linkedin? Do you think I can apply as SDE2 in Linkedin when my YOE is around 3?
Nope. You won’t get senior position for sure. Even on SDE1 they won’t match this offer.
