Any tips? I have my final interview for a software engineer soon and it's more of a if I'll fit in interview so I feel really good going into it. What the best way to make the most here when the hiring manager said we'll find a number we'll both really like?
The truth comes out one way or the other..
Probably depends on the company. But you should really try to get at least another offer.
That's what I was thinking but the only problem with that is I'm not actively looking for a new job they actually approached me.
That's your leverage right there. Use the fact that they are trying to poach you out. You're pretty happy where you are now so the "opportunity" would need to be attractive. (Opportunity = euphemism for $$$)
I don't know if this works so well, if you don't show any enthusiasm about the company at all they might not want to poach you. Anyway surely you have some old recruiter messages in linked in? Maybe try to respond to some and see if one would be able to move fast.
If they are making an actual offer and they approached YOU, then you are in the driver's seat.
"could you do a bit better on salary?"
It's so annoying when people try to be cunning and come up with stupid game plans. Just flat out drop your number to them. Don't be shy about it and don't overinflate. Then you can just say take it or leave it.
If you need a second offer to negotiate, maybe you need better negotiating skills. :) Any decent company is going to work with you on the offer. Remember, everything is negotiable. I always negotiate compensation first and once that is agreed on, then I move on to other things I care about.
My friend took his old job offer and did inspect element and change the salary
Did it help? Where is he now?
He quit that job but got a raise and more pto
