Best way to start learning how to code

One of my friend wants to get into a coding bootcamp and would like to be well prepared in order to have more chance to get accepted. Is there any resources / websites you would suggest to any non technical person who wants to get into coding? I come from a master in CS but wasn't able to think about how I would teach someone that has no fundamentals and where to even start. I already suggested codeschool.com & codeacademy.com for ruby/python and js paths. Thanks community!

Do some intro courses. Stanfords course on iOS dev is good. cs50 from Harvard. Honestly just one of those is enough for an entry level job. After that if he wants maybe consider a programming bootcamp. I started off doing the iOS courses while in college and it was awesome. I'd recommend app academy or hack reactor if they want to do a bootcamp

How long does he have? Best way to do a 101 class on your own is, not too shockingly, with a 101 class. Tell him to binge intro CS class lectures on YouTube. MIT OCW has a bunch of taped MIT lectures up, and there are other options. Then hop over to an algorithms and data structures class, though that will take him 10x longer to get through Disclaimer, no idea what coding bootcamps look for or teach

freecodecamp is a great start. HackReactor has ssp program ($250) for preparation.
