Assuming salary is not a judging criteria, which one is better, career wise, for a software engineer with 3 yoe.
Google - image search team
Facebook - bootcamp, so don't know the team
Uber - maps team
Work is search related in all three.

Google image search is quite good where you may get good experience. Facebook search (some Bing folks went there) still needs work, so could be a place to grow if you can add value. Uber maps - don’t know the exact scenarios, didn’t Microsoft sell their maps stuff to Uber?

      Isn't Uber bleeding money?

Amazon was bleeding money for a long time too. Same with salesforce. Not an insightful comment

Amazon wasn't bleeding money they just didn't make a profit for a looooong while. There's a huge difference between breaking even, and money falling out of the coffers

They used to be called Amazon dot bomb during Web 1.0 era. They were bleeding money. But ok mr ibm.

There's many articles saying that Ubers' current business model is unsustainable, because they currently subsidize the cost of an Uber ride by about 50% in an attempt to gain market dominance.

While it's awesome investors are giving us essentially subsidized taxis, I don't really know how that will hold up when they raise their prices.

There were many articles that said the same about Amazon in the late 1990s.

Yes but Amazon wasn't giving you subsidized, half priced books.

Uber is more like movie pass to me:
The more customers it gains the less money it actually makes. How can a business exist with LITERALLY a negative profit growth model?

Um. Yes it was. But I'm sure ibm has a great feature. There is no sense in debating this. Time will tell.

Isn't it a bit saturated? Given they have already mastered search

Image search has many pieces - deep learning, recognition etc. With advancements in AI/ML autonomous driving vehicle, drones etc. the usage expands. It may seem saturated if you are looking for a cat on search engine, but speech, image and video based search scenarios are constantly expanding. Folks are working on complex problems, look at the publications. And then some folks are trying to push this complexity entirely on the client side using hardware with lesser compute power than cloud.

I’d think Uber Maps is a better bet for these reasons, Product growth, learning opportunities and making a decent product better, upcoming IPO, smart people to work with etc.
