Big Bank to Fintech?

Has anyone made this switch? Are Fintech companies hiring from mostly startups or do they hire from banks too? What's the breakdown from where people are from?

All that matters is your skill set and relevant experience. For certain positions in fintech, big bank experience is a plus.

I went from L3 (corporate finance) to SoFi (corporate FPA).

I did the opposite (Fintech to Big banks). Much easier to make that switch as big banks constantly look for talent outside of banking (at least for product management and digital leadership roles). However...I seldom ever see the reverse being true, but as noted it really depends on the role

How's technology at US Bank?

Same as practically every other big bank, big dreams...total shit.

Most of them end up being bought by big banks anyway... you can get a role anywhere given you're the right person for the job. It doesn't necessarily matter where you came from...

It can be done. Find early stage and offer to work for less. Learn everything you can get your hands on. Look for fintechs that need an understanding of how banking and/or finance actually work. Most fintechs need a bank behind them in order to offer there service so they’re working with bankers all the time.
