Got offers from Bloomberg and Walmart Labs WalmartLabs (Hoboken, NJ) Title: Software Engineer 3 Base: $142k Joining bonus: $15k RSU: $20K per year (4-year vesting) Annual bonus: 16% (based on individual and company performance) Unlimited PTO Bloomberg (NYC) Title: Full-Stack Engineer Base: $150k Annual bonus: 20% (80% guaranteed) Current TC: Peanuts YOE: 6 Thoughts?
Yoe? And no sign on from bbg??
6, no sign-on
Could probably be better using bbg as a stepping stone for FANG. TC is relatively low for 6 yoe imo
Walmart RSUs are 20k every year right?
Bloomberg. Incredible tech infrastructure!
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic...
TimeToPlay looking at ur old posts and answers it seems like you are in a really bad team. Which team is it? Why don't u switch internally? If u don't like working at BBG why don't u start LC? Not attacking u just curios
Can ask for higher base at Walmart around 145-150. Lot of Jet guys are leaving Hoboken office. That’s why they are hiring a lot. Search blind threads about jet vs Walmart before making decision.
Yeah ppl are leaving but there is also lot of work from Walmart that's why they are hiring and not just attrition
That’s a low ball by Bloomberg, but then again I don’t know what your resume looks like. The standard out of college package is 160K this year.
TC? Or base?
I worked for Walmart Ecommerce (and Jet.com) in Hoboken for a few years, and I'm currently at Bloomberg. Let's me start out by saying that both offers are surprisingly low. With 6 yoe, you should be at least a Senior Engineer at Walmart and definitely a Senior Engineer at Bloomberg. Aim for 155k to 160k base with 40k signon (and 40k RSU) at Walmart. And 200K base with 30K signon (and 40k+ bonus) at Bloomberg. In terms of culture, Walmart is pretty inefficient and slow and could be purposeless. But it's relaxed and expectations aren't too crazy. Bloomberg is fast paced, transparent, very very efficient and could be stressful at the beginning. Also, it's very purposeful (many big firms and companies depend on the code "you" write), but... the codebases and code quality may not always be good because of the speed at which code is written and commited. Good luck.
Do you have any advice for a fresh grad right out of bootcamp because I have an phone interveiw coming up with Walmart for a Software Engineer 3, the Hoboken office as I was stating to Nyfp58.
Bloomberg is purposeful for what? May be they did not well in interviews as both places and hence comp is low at both. Bloomberg is hit or miss depending on team and so is every other company. Surprisingly no one is asking about team or work which is so important when changing job. Everyone is assuming work is similar at both places which may not be true. Walmart might have better work to offer.
I'm a fresh grad from a bootcamp and I have a 30-min phone interview with Walmart, Software Engineer 3 (Hoboken, NJ). I would like to know the technical questions they asked you and what to expect, any advice?
