How much value does Bloomberg provide on your resume when switching jobs? I'm guessing you'd still be able to get interviews with Google, but what about companies like LinkedIn, Uber, Airbnb, and Pinterest? Do they only give interviews to people from FNG or tier 1 unicorns? Would working at Bloomberg limit your job opportunities when you want to leave?
Sorry, but I think this is a very naive elitist perspective you are assuming. Safe to say no company limits your chances of interviews at another company. It is (and should be) your actual skills that you are judged on, and the quality of your experience, which doesn’t matter as much as you think which company you are at. Don’t forget it’s a very good job market for SDEs, so there is a major shortage of quality SDEs for the number of openings. Sure it helps to be at FNG, but it is never a requirement. Welcome to the real world!
Know some ex Bloomberg that left for Citadel, Google, amzn. On LinkedIn ull find plenty of other examples too. Hell there at r people that make it to fang and unicorns working at some shit hole that u never would ever heard about. Getting an interview won't be hard u just need to pass the interviews. Starting at Bloomberg isn't a limiter. You can argue it woulda been better if you were at a fang already but that I then again it's not as tight of a circle jerk as u would think
You already work for FB, so I wouldn't worry about getting interviews. VMware is the biggest name on my resume, and all these companies - except may be Pinterest - contacted me before.
Lol this is a silly question. I started with a no brand company and was able to interview anywhere essentially.
Brands make a difference depending on the maturity of the recruiter/hiring manager. If their biases take the better of their sensibilities, then they may look for shortcuts to inferring the candidate’s skill level. These shortcuts include college one attended and companies one has worked for. That said, the best way to get an interview is via your network. Everything falls by the wayside if you can get a referral directly to the hiring manager for the position you are applying for. Summarily, it can have an impact which in your case is lessened to an extent because you already have Facebook on your CV. You can further mitigate this impact by leveraging your network and getting referred to positions you are interested in. Shameless plug: If you’re considering Bloomberg, then there’s a unicorn in the space which may be interesting too.. https://www.risk.net/technology/5746616/symphony-bots-march-on-bloomberg https://amp.ft.com/content/f16d73ee-a910-11e7-ab55-27219df83c97 http://www.businessinsider.com/inside-symphonys-battle-to-break-into-a-28-billion-market-for-wall-street-chat-and-avoid-becoming-bloomberg-roadkill-2018-8
Maybe not as good as FANG but a lot of recruiters know Bloomberg. I think if you switch in a few years you'll be fine. If you stay in an uninteresting groups at BB for years on end it might be difficult to say tho
Most companies consider Bloombergers are C++ and other legacy coders - I have seen some managers reject Bloomberg resumes in banks Now that said a good candidate can get a job anywhere even in FANG but as somebody mentioned earlier — there is lot of dead weight who make 300k+ and couldn’t land a 150k job outside as a senior developer Which also leads to the reason why many coders don’t leave the firm

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
I know people from Bloomberg who went to a tier 1 Unicorn (now IPOed) at L6 equivalent.
What about for lower level people?
