Hi, I’ve recently got a verbal offer from oath and passed Bloomberg’s initial screen and there will be onsite, so I’d like to ask which one is better going forward as a software engineer. Tbh I feel like yahoo (oath) is Titanic but TC is 2.5 times of what I’m getting here and it’s in Bay Area. I’m based in Oregon that’s 3x cheaper than Bay Area. on the other hand Bloomberg sounds like great experience because it’s a financial services company and would be very fast paced (I’m assuming ) since they have software in production. I’d like to hear views of engineers from both.
Bloomberg is NOT fast paced. Jesus fucking christ its the slowest moving company I've ever been at. Often referred to as "Iceberg", both internally and externally. There are a couple cool teams but boy oh boy is the rest of it slow. If you come here and want growth, I'd recommend going straight for a team that doesn't touch the Terminal. Oath is alright, I've got friends there, but it doesn't sound like they're really working on anything of consequence. I may be wrong, so best to hear from somebody who actually works there.
Keep interviewing and don’t stop right here. What’s the team at Oath that extended the offer?
Yahoo
Oath is better of the 2 messed up companies. But both are far better than Intel
What team at Yahoo?
+2000 -- I'd tell people to steer clear of Small Business and shepherd them to Finance, Sports, and parts of ads, for example.
Seems like only frustrated Bloomberg employees are on Blind. Its not all bad as some would lead you to believe. Its mix of good and bad as in all large companies. Do your own research and dont depend only on advice on Blind.
The team you work for at Yahoo / Oath matters a lot. In some you will be miserable, in others it will be incredible.
