Blue Shield vs Kaiser Permanente

Which one do you recommend and why? Not a super healthy person and would like to pay min when I visit the doc but also don't want to be very restricted in terms of network...Just a bit confused here

Kaiser is an HMO. You will be very restricted in terms of network.

Kaiser Permanente PA2VA2? Apr 25, 2022

Yes, doctors who work for Kaiser only work for Kaiser. Hardly restricted. If you use BCBS and want the lowest possible price you have to go in-network - which is nothing more than double speak restricting doctors. Illusion of choice. Not to mention, you never know what you'll end up paying with coinsurance.

For those who chose Kaiser can I ask why

Data driven care model and their network is dominant in some areas. Check your favorite docs before choosing

If you have health issues and plan to go to the doctors a lot, definitely not Kaiser. Get a good PPO where you can go to any doctor. At Kaiser you will be limited to a very small network. It is a bit cheaper though.

Don't know where you are - but where I live KP has over a thousand doctors in my area. Hardly restricted. Plus if you go with a PPO and want to keep it affordable you have to stay in network - which is restricted doctors! In-network is nothing but PPO speak for HMO.

Google for Kaiser papers. Kaiser is terrible. Conflict of interest.
