they'll be fine
The company will ultimately be fine, but this whole thing really is a massive failure of engineering in just about every respect. And the company is not handling it well.
Watch, it’ll be another instance of insufficient pilot training with some version of ‘this knob used to be there and now it’s not’ or ‘oh, i didnt know that button was required’...
That will be the company’s stance, but even if “retraining” to deal with the new software can mitigate the risk that’s still bad design.
How is it a bad design? There is override functionality for the autopilot (including stall control) features. You turn them off in sequence until the system input commanding a dive no longer affects flight control. It looks like this was not done in both cases. Airbus had similar teething issues with pilots unable to figure out sensor failures. It's no big deal and in the end, safety wins. People who fly with poorly trained pilots potentially lose. These aren't crashing in orgs with well regarded flight training programs.
Do you say this every time a plane goes down?
This is bad engineering. It killed 300 people already.
Not when it happens to two same model planes in a span of six months. Irrespective of who’s fault it is. It’s better to not use them till we know the real reason. I personally like to appreciate China for their decision on stop using this model temporarily.
They have a problem, but they'll be fine, they don't have much competition
