Bombed by interview at Facebook

I think I badly bombed the Facebook interview, the interviewer asked me how I handled an abrasive person who did finger wagging. He kept prompting me to give example. In my 20 years, I haven't had experience managing people that would do such extreme rude behavior, I have had shouting matches, slur in arguments but it has never crossed lines. Being customer facing , Mindfulness is something we practise actively. The arguments / differences never left the room. It was professional and disagree and commit was generally followed. I have moved people to different teams and have tried hard to make them successful, and only let go folks as last option. the interviewer was not happy that I didn't have a trigger happy finger.

It was a trick question. You didn’t bomb.

I talked about frustrated team members that were exasperated however, listening to them and coaching them to be empathatic , putting themselves in the other persons shoes and finally finding creative ways to get stuff done. And delivering results is important. Firing people is not solution, changing their behaviors is the approach. training and bringing mindfulness at workplace goes long way.

It’s your fault. Admit it. You’re just too embarrassed to face failure.

interviewer's notes, in proper cursive handwriting: candidate was not experienced enough for managerial role due to lack of diversity in leadership stories

I’ve never heard of such a thing, that’s crazy. I really want to hear that you grabbed his finger and broke it.

You seem like a great leader. You are the type of people I'd like to meet.

How or what did you do to get to your point? I'm curious to learn more about your story if possible.

What on earth is finger wagging? Is this some west coast gang symbol or something?

it's pretending that your index is a dog's tongue

Now I’m even more confused. If I saw someone pretending that their finger was a dog’s tongue, I’d probably call the looney farm!

You seem to have problems with making stuff up

I've been blessed with good teams and good projects. When interviewers focus on bad teams and bad projects, perhaps it's a sign of their internal issues and a place to avoid.
