Just interviewed with fb onsite. Bombed the first interview (product sense) due to nerves but did really well on the second and third. Did really well on product sense in phone screen round. Does this mean I didn’t get the offer?
Might get a request for some follow ups and a TPM offer.
That's not how it works.
Most likely a reject from my experience.
Can you explain why you think you didn’t do so well?
It was a “you are the pm, improve ___ product” question. I didn’t step back and think about why improving is even necessary at this point (first mistake). I then set up my approach as first thinking of who the customers using this product are, and if their needs are being met. If a need is missing, I would double down on that and improve it. I changed my “customer type” twice. I then wrote out customer needs and was running out of time so I randomly picked a customer need that wasn’t being met. I then went on and explained what problem I am solving by choosing this customer need. I then wireframed solutions to one of those problems. I came up with only 2 different solutions as I was running out of time and they were pretty bad in my opinion. I then picked one of them and didn’t have a chance to explain trade-offs, etc. The interviewer then gave me 1 worded responses to my questions and didn’t seem to satisfied. At least that’s how I felt. Overall, I would have done this a million different ways looking back, but I let nerves get the best of me.
Thanks for elaborating. I’m curious to know if the product was related to the team you were interviewing with or more like a random text book pick such as alarm clock for blind etc. ? Just getting started with FB interview prep and have a recruiter call coming up soon. BTW, it sounds like you gave it a good shot and are wanting to do better. Hope the interviewer sees through this and gives you a thumbs up. Best of luck!
what is product sense interview?
How much common sense you have about product management
Yeah like all the time aka imposter syndrome
All three rounds must be great to be accepted
If you did really well on the other interviews they can sometimes do a follow up interview (but only if you really killed it)
But the “bad” one must be close enough for that consideration.
Fair - I've seen some cases where someone did quite badly on one but rocked enough on another interview that the interviewers felt like they interviewed two different people... it's all a question whether there is an interviewer that will fight for you in the face of negative feedback from the other interviews
Hi OP! How did it end up going?
I bombed the product sense interview today and had the same exact experience. Hoping you were able to get through this awful feeling
I’m sorry :/ It took me a while to get over but I went back straight into prepping again and this time I was able to land it. 🙂 Don’t be discouraged!
Keep your expectations low.
