I am in US and got offer in booking AMS, not much different TC than what I am getting here. Any guidance? Is booking culture good? How different or difficult it is than living in US? I am cyber security specialist.
TC is around 85 K euro, 20K stock and 20% bonus + 10K relocation
You can do much better in the US. EU wages suck.
Agree with above comment.
WLB is good, but growing in this company requires excellent communication and social skills.
In normal terms you need to be a wizard or a politician to climb the ladder
You will certainly work less and enjoy the off work life much more but mind that the quality of product is bad and there is a lot of shitty politics going on in the company.
Agree. Hiring process is also not so seamless.
What do you mean?
Can you explain a bit more? Generally hiring process is pretty smooth.
Im general the work culture at Booking.com is very positive, friendly and employee focused. If you'll move into amsterdam, your life quality will increase sagnificantly. The offer you got sounds fair and can help you when you decide to buy a place to live in later on (usually people buy after 1 year of living here). The wlb and health care is wayyyyyy better then USA and the visa conditions are really good here. Plus, with this salary you are entitled for 5 years of ruling 30. Whic means for 5 years, 30% of your income is exempt from tax, also capital gains and other benefits are exempt from tax. This helps you leverage your financial situation sagnificantly, especially if you plan to stay here on the long term.
Seems great. How much do you Guys save in average per year for Single/Family?
Really Depends on your life style, family composition, whether you rent or buy (buy is cheaper) , etc... I can say that as a single provider for a family, I save a nice amount every month with a quite extensive life style of holidays (3-4 times per year abroad) and restaurants (5-7 times a week) and various trips in the Netherlands. Then when Booking's yearly bonus arrives, I put it back to the mortgage. With that being said, we are extremely responsible in choosing where we eat/vacate and how much we spend. This allowed us to upgrade our life style to the above and still save some cash on the side. On the opposite side, there's couple's (both work in tech) that doesn't manage to save any money because they just spend blindlesslly. I can only imagine what we would save if my wife earned a tech salary as well... Back to my point, it's more about you then the economy here, because the economy is very convenient, you won't get rich but definitely live comfortably and save a lot of money if you are properly responsible.
I believe expat also gets 30% back in tax that is big thing, isn’t it?
It is a big thing, but the government might take it away any moment retroactively..
Is it progressed? Is there any current legislation that is proposed for such?
If you want top comp stay in the US. If you want to explore Europe, that's a great TC to live in the city and enjoy the European life. Booking has its minuses but overall I've enjoyed my time here since I moved over and don't have any regrets since the move.
Company culture sucks, pure politics and not a tech company
Go to uber Amsterdam. Higher comp, better culture.
