I got an offer from Box - Senior Soft Engg. They havent yet disclosed the numbers. So my question is two-fold? 1. What compensation can I expect? I have 6 years of backend experience and MS. 2. Box stock growth y/y is very similar to eBay. Does Box have a good growth strategy? I like what I do at eBay, plus made some good friends here. Will move to Box be worth it? eBay comp: 150k + 22k RSU vesting everyyear ( might get more stock refesher) + 13k bonus TC: 185k Update—- Received comp numbers: i guess that made the decision very easy for me :) . Box comp: 200k + 380k Rsu ( vesting in 4 years) Update — Thanks all of you for your comments and advices. Meanwhile i have received an offer from Amazon Lab 126, which has added to my confusion. This is computer vision team. TC: 245k So i am torn between Box ( TC: 305k ) vs Amazon ( TC:245k). Work wise i feel i will learn more in Amazon. What should I do?
If box, why not us
Can you please refer?
Definitely box will offer more stocks hence more tc btw what is your position at ebay?
I have worked at both. I'll pick Box any day. Better comp (185 is NOTHING for them to beat by a mile), stronger engineering, smaller place with a lot of tech ownership and a magnitude stronger tech brand on your resume. Plus a no-nonsense no-assholes environment of work. They compete with G and F for candidates. And engineers leaving Box go to Other top brands like G/F/ABnB etc.
+1 to what @soham@IK said. Box can easily beat eBay when it comes to comp. it's a good tech brand. From what I have heard most people who leave box go to other tier1 companies.
+1 especially the "no assholes" but it's more than that; everyone is so awesome. Great culture, great people. Probably one of the most supportive CEOs for women in tech. I joined as a Sr SWE at $275 TC: $200k + $300k + bonus. I know plenty of people who have gone to FAANG from Box. I suspect that they are disappointed about their new job, tho! Haha
13k joining bonus or perf bonus every tear? I would say box is any day bettering than ebay.
I respectfully and strongly disagree regarding "literally do not have tech talent." The rest was hard to follow.
FB code base has almost no test. Move fast and break things are something incompatible with good engineering practice. Also FB has very low survival rate for senior engineers. At level 6, only 30% can stay a bit longer than a year. It seems to me senior engineers are set to fail in that environment
Tier 1 (Box) vs Tier 2 (eBay). It's a no contest. And this is coming from someone who works at eBay.
