Men sexualize themselves all the time. Have you seen Jeff Bezosās muscles lately? Wearing form-fitting clothing, suits, fancy watches to signify power and domination (i.e. sexual power). Would you ever say to an investment banker in an expensive form-fitting suit with a Rolex that āif you chase that, itās what youāre going to getā ... no, you would not.
The double-bind for women is that sexual signals for women relate to submissiveness and constraint, which directly contradict the inherent power that a female executive must convey. A woman who doesnāt exhibit sexual power, on the other hand, is dismissed as undesirable (as men often are too). Hence, women who convey sexual power are punished for acting incongruously with expectations / āusing their sexuality to get aheadā, and women who do not convey sexual power are punished.
While there are always exceptions, especially as an entrepreneur, in general people in corporations who convey dominance and power are promoted over those who do not. Tall people are promoted over short people. Tall presidential candidates even have an edge over shorter ones.
The way humans convey power and authority is inextricably mixed with sexual attractiveness. Itās true for men. Itās also true for women. And itās confusing when women either donāt conform to gender expectations (as the Hopkins case showed) AND when they do (as this thread shows).

āAfter her promotion was postponed for the first year, Hopkins met with the head supervisor of her department, Thomas Beyer, who told her that to increase chances of promotion she needed to "walk more femininely, talk more femininely, dress more femininely, wear make-up, have her hair styled, and wear jewelry." Hopkins was well qualified for partnership, and frequently outperformed her male co-workers. Many male employees said they would not be comfortable having her as their partner because she did not act the way they believed a woman should.ā

That is exactly what I would like to know.
Is any way to transform a company in a short period of time?
Changing the way people (men and women) really think was not an easy even for religious leaders.
It seems to me, that may change with the next generation only. So my son and daughter will live in the completely different society.
Itās really just the MO of tech companies. Letās hire one person and pretend like weāre making changes but in reality weāre not behind it and dgaf. I think the responses to a lot of questions on blind show a lot of people could careless about the moral compass of themselves or their company... just TC or GTFO
If you want strong moral compass, look back to USSR.
My comment is more towards the lip service of the tech industry. There is no motivation on their part. I donāt know why people expect things to change because they hired ONE individual. Get real. Itās all a PR stunt.
USSR had a pretty bad moral compass bud. Stop trying to derail this conversation into the shit-abyss randy.
Hahahahaha
Sexist post on Blind = worthless bullshit position
Who knows why she is leaving, but undoubtedly she has a reason for her choices.
Ugh. Sometimes I wonder how we are still here...
You know damn well you bounce around FANG for sign on bonuses and TC too. Give me a break lmao.
These same people weāll be on someone elseās post saying āOMG, you worked at your current position and company for more than 2 years? That looks so bad!ā š
