I was an intern at Uber last summer. Have intern offers at Bridgewater and FB. Intern comp is 50% more than FB offer, but Im not sure if its worth the stress/reputation. Weighing pros and cons of offer at BW Pros - more money - potentially more interesting work (seeing if i can get low latency on research team) - more prestige in finance - higher engineering bar Cons - weird vibe I got from company - 50-55 hrs a week average work - harder to transition to tech (not very well known in SV) - Conneticut Anybody with advice or new grad comp info on bridgewater?
- Connecticut You have your answer there 😂
What's the TC .. curious to see how it compares to FB
FB offer is 8k a month + housing. BW offer is 13k a month + slightly nicer housing
What’s made you conclude Bridgewater has a “higher engineering bar”?
Mostly the number of engineers that get hired. If FB hires 20k engineers and Bridgewater hires 500 and pays them more, their bar would be higher. You can generalize this argument to any company in SV now.
If you get a chance to work with Watson’s father - I would go with BW with zero pay.
BW is a cult. It’s straight up weird to work there
+1 have talked to a lot of guys from there, incredibly weird place and culture. If you don’t like the vibe I wouldn’t consider it, since they strongly emphasize their culture
Learn about “ radical transparency & truth “ and other Ray Dalio’s “ principles “ and think through how you’ll perform in an environment that sticks to those principles
Have to think about if the money is worth dealing with the location/reputation/weird vibes
13k/m for BW, is it before tax or after tax ?
They open you a numbered account on Caymans, so you don’t pay taxes.
before. i'm working there this summer
Stopped reading at “reputation” 😂
