Bringing down big banks 1 interview at a time

After my in-depth research of the financial industry in the late 2000s (read: after watching The Big Short, Inside Job and Wolf of Wall Street) I am convinced that banks and hedge funds don't have society's best interests in mind and are willing to sacrifice anything for profit.

I want to bring them down and have devised a clever scheme for this: apply to a job for a quant firm / hedge fund / Goldman Sachs, go to the interview to NYC (get them to pay for food, flights && hotel), waste a day of their devs time and then reject the offer.

I need your help, Blind activists! Join me in the crusade ( or at least refer me to fintech - I can ML @ FANG).

Happy to, except we know what's really going to happen is you'll bomb the phone screen and only waste 5 minutes of their time instead of a whole day ๐Ÿ˜”.

Which fintech company do you work for? I got offers from many places (incl fb) so I know that phone screens are easy peasy. Who cares if I bomb the on-site

You sound like an idiot. I donโ€™t think you can get a job on Wall Street.

Like getting a job on Wall Street is hard. Goldman Sachs still asks what polymorphism is on their phone screens ๐Ÿ˜‚

@SAP - but you still failed that interview and landed at SAP?

Itโ€™s easier to get help if you are straightforward.

Then... this doesnโ€™t move the needle, they already expect that most interviews wonโ€™t lead to a hire. It wonโ€™t even register as more than statistical noise in the hiring process. You could do absurd things to make yourself memorable, but that raises an awkward conversation for whoever refers you. In any case, they can afford your flight and hotel.

If we assume each interview costs them $5000 and everyone from FANG applies, that leads to ~1B of lost income. GS (and they're frigging HUGE) only gets ~10B profits a year. Smaller companies (hedge funds: two sigma, blackrock, citadel etc) would be much easier to disrupt. The good thing is that they can't stop hiring from FANG. Our power is in our numbers!! Join me

Just a note, Blackrock is not small. Itโ€™s the biggest asset manager in the world :)

But we already do this. Go to the interview, self inflate yourself as they salivate at your competence, sweet talk them, have a nice day in NYC (feels like a short vacation), fly back, and reject them.

It's a lot of fun if you do it with friends.

Any way of bypassing phone screens? Don't want to spend too much time on this

In the recruiter phone call, speak with them about a product/feature you help build that is in production. Speak about the level of depth of your work. Since you haven't been fired from a FANG, you don't have time for leetcode coding challenge phone screen waste of time activity.

Ask for a phone interview with the manager on the team since all the engineers at banks are way below your skill level and won't understand your code in the phone screen. Then ask go to straight onsite as you don't have time.

Say all of this in a polite way.

Even better, join the banks, uncover what shady shit they are doing, document the evidence and report it to the authorities and get a fat payout for whistleblowing.

For example, Goldman Sachs and many many other banks do proprietary trading even though it's banned by Dodd Frank
