Asking on behalf of a friend who is not on Blind. He recently got laid off from Western Digital with a title of Principal Firmware Engineer. Then got an offer from Broadcom for Staff Software Engineer at San Jose, CA with 130K base (Not TC), 620 RSUs, 20% bonus target. 10 YOE. His previous base at WD was 150k. Any opinions/comments? How much more can he negotiate?
Location???
San Jose. My bad for missing it in the first place
315 is stock price right? Then Tc is like 180k(base + stock) + 20%(130). So it is like 200-210k which is average for hardware. For Sw, it is bad
130K base is definitely a low-ball. I'd think 165K-180K base is the range for Staff Engineer in old tech. In new tech, even Senior Software Engineers will make way more.
Base seems shy, seems IC4 medium. He might try to negotiate Base.
You guys are dreaming. 130k is about right for icb4.
Both base and RSU are low. Broadcom pays very competitive now.
How much was his TC at Western Digital ? Did he mentioned to Broadcom mgr that he was let go from his current position ? Ask him to check with the mgr when will be his next rsu refresh - next year or after 4 years ?
Is it true that Broadcom gives good RSU's every year to their employees? anyone have idea about approximate compensation growth/hike every year? How much RCU grant? For s/w engineer with YOE 12.

Terrible lowball. He should be making 300k+ for his experience and job title.
300k as in TC right? But what about the base pay? Note that the 130 is base pay offered by Broadcom.
Yes tc should be 300k+. 130k base is too low. He should be making about 200k base
