I was planning on buying a used MB GLS... Will run me about 40k I love the classic body style, the size (has the 3rd row seat), and the fact they are good for camping etc... I’ve looked at the Lexus RX, land rover, cayenne, and Q7...I keep coming back to the GLS I absolutely DO NOT want a Tesla. Is maintenance really that high for these cars?
What year are we talking? Luxury cars are hard because the maintenance can be a ton. I know people crap on leases, but you could possibly look into one of those? Especially if you don’t plan on keeping it forever?
I wouldn’t get anything older than a 2017 Isn’t leasing just tossing money down the hole?
Oh ok that’s good. If you can get one from a mb dealership with warranty that would be excellent. Especially if it’s 2017/2018 you probably won’t run into trouble for awhile. MBs are solid cars :) Edit: I know a ton of people who lease as they see it as the most non hassle way of dealing with luxury cars. They swap them out basically after every three years. They have done the math and it basically comes out to buying the car and selling it after three years. You would have to do the math for your situation but it could work out and you could get a 2019 maybe!
Lexus is very low maintenance, probably equal to Toyota. There was a study recently and Lexus was the cheapest brand to maintain. All German cars are super high maintenance.
I honestly don’t like the body styles but I know they’re good cars.
What about Sequoia or Land Cruiser? Doesn’t have the “luxury” brand of Lexus but you can get pretty much the same stuff in both as a GX I would assume. You might (or might not) like the looks better. 4Runner is another option, but a bit smaller than those.
How many miles, what year, what is the condition, what maintenance was done by previous owner, for how long you are going to keep it? Premium germans are high cost maintenance and it is not just about breaks and oil changes. Battery, sensors, plugs, belts, suspension. Every service is in between 800-1500 depending on service provider
All German cars will require more maintenance than any Japanese car, getting exponentially worse as they age.
Get the 2020 GLE. The GLS interior is from 2 generations ago, absolutely crap.
This. So much this. The old interiors weren't terrible for their time. But the new is so much better. OP said he knows cars. If yes, I'd like to have what he's smoking. You shouldn't be buying a non-amg merc for anything but the interiors.
Either get the Lexus version of the Landcruiser, or get whatever you like with a Carmax warranty. $3k on the warranty and stop worrying about repairs.
Why no Tesla?
Wouldn’t buy. Can’t afford. TC too low 😭
Why not buy a new Ford Escape
GLS is comparable to a large SUV, not a Ford Escape.
